Infrared Thermography Studies
What is Infrared Thermography?
Infrared thermography is the study of items
through a special camera that records surface temperature rather
than color.
Why would my electrical system
need this? Poor connections in electrical
circuits give off heat. Excess heat can lead to premature oxidation
of a connection, which can lead to failure of the circuit or possibly
a fire. Premature heating of a circuit breakers in panels can also
be a sign of failure. IR Thermography can also tell if your system
is carrying too much current for the wires or breakers that you
are using.
Where should I do this?
Any place there are mechanical or lug connections,
wire nuts, crimp on connectors, breaker panels, transformers, generators,
UPS's, etc.
